BC and Washington State will be well represented at the VEX Robotics World Championship coming up April 19-21 in Anaheim California. Gladstone Secondary, from Vancouver, is sending four teams to the event, Cambie Secondary from Richmond is sending two, and David Thompson Secondary is sending one. The largest contingent of area teams will be from the Exothermic Robotics club of Redmond, Washington, sending eight teams, while defending world champion team W.A.S.A.B.I., from Bellvue, WA is sending three. They will be joined by a team from Toppenish High School, from Toppenish, WA and a team from Sandy High School in Sandy, Oregon, that has done well at local events this year.
To get to the world championships, area teams must qualify at a regional competition. Qualifying events included the Washington Jump Start tournament, in November, in Redmond; the BC Season Opener in Richmond, in December; the Vancouver Island Tournament in Courtenay in January; the Washington Winter Tournament in February; and the BC Championship event, held at the BC Institute of Technology in March. There are over eighty area teams contesting these top qualifying spots.
Congratulations to all the teams, and good luck at “Worlds”!
